NodeBox 1rc8 release

Posted by Tom De Smedt on Sep 29, 2006

The next NodeBox release (1rc8) should arrive somewhere around the beginning of november.

It will include (hopefully all of) the following new features and fixes:

  • fastmode: improved performance for interaction and animation
  • selections: a way to manipulate groups of objects based on their color, size, position, etc. Something Frederik likes to call GraQuLa (Graphic Query Language)
  • attributed strings: the possiblity to manipulate individual words and characters in paragraph text
  • transparent background instead of white background in exported PDF's
  • bug fix for beginclip()
  • AppleScript support
  • improved support for interaction and animation
  • improved support for custom interaces, i.e. var() commands
  • if possible, gradients
  • fullscreen mode

We plan to release 6 libraries between now and december:

  • Knowledge: a small shallow parser for language processing
  • Knowledge: XML support
  • Path: SVG support (already online) and supershapes
  • Type: pathfilters (like the LetterKnitter script)
  • Pixels: Core Image support, i.e. hardware-accelerated image processing

In the same period we also plan to launch a new website as we feel this one has reached its limit. The new website will include better documentation, blog, decent forum, source code version management and tagging (e.g. show me all the things on the site that have been tagged "typography", or "AI"). We are happy to announce Lieven Menschaert (from Dorkbot) will join our team to give better community support.
