NB for perl?
Posted by chris gee on Jan 31, 2007
as i'm old-school and get a major headache whenever i read OO-code,
is there any interest in a version for Perl(or even Ruby)?
i love messing around with NB as is right now, but i'm still having
a bit of trouble grasping some OO concepts. a more straight-forward
version that plugs into perl, would make me really happy.
thanks for you consideration,
chris

What would be awesome though is a way to plug this into an OSX server and use it online - like randomly generating an image on webpage everytime someone enters etc...

Yes, we have been playing with the idea of a "NodeBox server" for some time now. A thing like that would indeed be awesome. Frederik even has portions of the code finished. But I can't tell you exactly when/how it will be ready/available though, there's been a lot of work and things to do lately.

I've been looking for something like Nodebox but in ruby and ruby is very popular and hyped at the moment so it would be nice to have a ruby version/option.

Hi Chris,
Python as a programming language is a good all-rounder: it's understandable for people without any coding experience, it can do OO as well as functional programming and has lots of libraries and functionalities. Naturally, the same can be said about Perl and Ruby. In the past we have even thought about developing a version for Ruby.
However, Frederik and me are Python programmers with no real knowledge of Perl. So a Perl version is not something we are currently thinking about. It would involve developing in PerlObjC and rewriting all of the code. NodeBox is basically a way to have Python talk to the Quartz technology in Mac OS X. A Perl interface would be a totally new, totally different application.
