var() doesn't run

Hi, I'm trying this very simple code and it doesn't work

var("word",TEXT)
var("doWord", BUTTON)
 
def doWord():
    font("Futura", 174)
    text(word, 100, 345)
When I push on the doWord Button it's always the word hello that is display. I've got the same problem with the fatpath exemple.
